Taking the theory test for car drivers
The driving theory test for cars has two parts and these are the multiple choice driving theory questions and hazard perception test. You’ll take this test at a DVSA theory test centre.
The driving theory questions consist of 50 questions. 3 of these questions relate to a video that you’ll watch. The pass mark of 43 out of 50. You’ll get a time of 57 minutes to complete this part of the overall test.
The hazard perception test are 14 short videos which contains at least one major developing hazard. However, one of these videos will contain two hazards. You’ll score points for spotting any developing hazards in good time. For each hazards spotted you could score up to 5 points. The pass mark for this part is 44 out of 75.
If you’re successful with the theory test you will receive a letter which shows your pass certificate number on it. You’ll need this when you book your driving test. This certificate number will last for 2 years and give you this period of time to pass your driving test.
